TransformerBee.MCP is an MCP server that provides Model Context Protocol access to the transformer.bee service, an EDIFACT to BO4E data converter used in energy market communication. Built in Python using the official python-mcp SDK and transformerbeeclient.py, this proof of concept allows AI assistants like Claude to interface directly with local or remote transformer.bee instances. Software engineers and energy data specialists working with German energy market formats can use this integration to query and convert EDIFACT messages into BO4E business objects from within their development environments. Configuration is handled entirely through standard environment variables, which define the target service host and optional client credentials. The server can be deployed either as a standard Python package installed via uv or pip, or executed directly as an isolated Docker container with network access to the target conversion backend.

sh pip install transformerbeemcp or sh docker pull ghcr.io/hochfrequenz/transformerbee.mcp:latest 2. Open your claude_desktop_config.json file in Claude Desktop. 3. Add the server entry with your transformer.bee host configuration under mcpServers: json { "mcpServers": { "TransformerBee.mcp": { "command": "run-transformerbee-mcp-server", "args": [], "env": { "TRANSFORMERBEE_HOST": "http://localhost:5021", "TRANSFORMERBEE_CLIENT_ID": "", "TRANSFORMERBEE_CLIENT_SECRET": "" } } } } 4. Restart Claude Desktop to activate the connection.Part of MCP Servers
You can install TransformerBee.MCP as a Python package by running pip install transformerbeemcp or uv install transformerbeemcp. Alternatively, you can pull the official container image from GitHub Container Registry using docker pull ghcr.io/hochfrequenz/transformerbee.mcp:latest.
TransformerBee.MCP provides an MCP interface for the transformer.bee service, allowing AI assistants to convert energy market data between EDIFACT formats and BO4E business object models using transformerbeeclient.py under the hood.
TransformerBee.MCP works with Claude Desktop and other MCP-compatible clients. You configure it inside your client configuration file using either the Python CLI command run-transformerbee-mcp-server or standard Docker execution arguments.
The server requires environment variables to locate the backend service. You must set TRANSFORMERBEE_HOST, pointing to the transformer.bee endpoint such as http://localhost:5021, and optionally provide TRANSFORMERBEE_CLIENT_ID and TRANSFORMERBEE_CLIENT_SECRET if authentication is enabled.
