QuickBooks Time is an MCP server that connects Claude Desktop and other Model Context Protocol clients directly to the QuickBooks Time API. Designed for operations managers, accountants, and team leads, it provides unified access to core workforce management features that were previously split across multiple servers. Users can query jobcodes, retrieve real-time timesheets, inspect user profiles, and monitor project status without leaving their AI assistant. The server supports comprehensive tracking capabilities, including checking who is currently on the clock, viewing group hierarchy settings, and retrieving historical project activity logs. It also simplifies payroll and reporting workflows by generating detailed payroll summaries, daily user breakdowns, and jobcode-grouped time totals across custom date ranges. By exposing these QuickBooks Time endpoints as MCP tools, the server enables automated data analysis, time-tracking audits, and labor reporting directly within conversational AI environments.

You can install the server by cloning its GitHub repository and running pip install -r requirements.txt to install dependencies. Afterwards, set your QuickBooks Time access token inside a .env file and register the Python entry point main.py under the mcpServers configuration block in your MCP client.
This server integrates QuickBooks Time API functionality into an MCP client. It enables querying jobcodes and their hierarchies, fetching timesheets and active on-the-clock users, inspecting user profiles and company groups, tracking project activity logs, and pulling payroll reports segmented by user or jobcode.
The server works with Claude Desktop using standard standard input and output MCP configuration. Any other client supporting Python-based local Model Context Protocol servers can also connect by executing the script with the required access token environment variable.
The server requires a QuickBooks Time access token. You provide this value by setting the QB_TIME_ACCESS_TOKEN environment variable in a .env file or directly within the environment settings of your MCP client configuration.
