Notion is an MCP server that connects AI assistants to your Notion workspace to manage databases, pages, and workplace content. Built for teams, project managers, and knowledge workers, it exposes a standardized interface allowing Model Context Protocol clients to read and write directly to Notion documents. The server enables large language models to list existing databases, inspect schemas, retrieve page contents, and review workspace update histories. It also provides built-in prompt templates designed to summarize project statuses, surface upcoming deadlines, and compile daily task lists. Users can configure optional behavior such as action confirmation requirements for page creation, modification, and deletion, as well as automatic backup directories with page retention rules. By connecting Claude or compatible AI hosts to your internal knowledge base, Notion facilitates task management, documentation retrieval, and content synchronization without requiring manual switching between apps.

To install the server, clone the repository, install dependencies using npm install, set your NOTION_API_KEY in a .env file, and build the project with npm run build. Then add the built index.js path and your API key to the Claude for Desktop configuration file.
The server exposes workspace resources like databases, database schemas, page contents, and recent updates. It supports listing and modifying pages and includes pre-configured prompt templates for tracking upcoming deadlines, summarizing project statuses, and reviewing daily tasks.
It is documented for use with Claude for Desktop through its JSON configuration file. It also works with any standard Model Context Protocol client capable of spawning Node.js subprocesses and passing environment variables.
You need Node.js version 16 or higher, a Notion integration API key generated from your Notion developer account, and an active Notion workspace where integration permissions have been granted.
