Notion MCP Server is an MCP server that connects Claude and other Model Context Protocol clients directly to a user's Notion workspace. Knowledge workers, project managers, and developers use this server to inspect, retrieve, and manage Notion documentation using natural language commands. The integration exposes specialized tools for searching across a workspace, reading page content, creating new pages, and modifying existing page bodies or titles. In addition to standard document operations, the server provides full support for managing structured Notion databases. Clients can query databases using custom filters and sorting criteria, create new databases equipped with typed schemas, insert new rows containing rich properties such as selects, dates, and text, and update existing entries. By bridging the Notion API through the Model Context Protocol, the server allows AI models to handle documentation maintenance, task tracking, and workspace updates without requiring manual browser navigation.

bash git clone https://github.com/SAhmadUmass/notion-mcp-server cd notion-mcp-server npm install 2. Build the project: bash npm run build 3. Obtain an integration API key from the Notion Developers portal and ensure your Notion pages are shared with your integration. 4. Open your Claude for Desktop configuration file (~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json on macOS) and add the server configuration: json { "mcpServers": { "notion": { "command": "node", "args": [ "/ABSOLUTE/PATH/TO/notion-mcp-server/dist/index.js", "--notion-api-key=YOUR_ACTUAL_API_KEY_HERE" ] } } } 5. Notion MCP Server allows LLMs to interact with a Notion workspace. It provides tools to search workspace content, read specific page details, create pages, update page titles and content, construct new databases, query databases with filters and sorting, and create or update database rows.
Notion MCP Server works with Claude for Desktop and any other Model Context Protocol client capable of launching local node processes using stdio communication.
Clone the GitHub repository, install the dependencies with npm install, and run npm run build. Then, configure your client such as Claude for Desktop by pointing to the built dist/index.js file and supplying your Notion API key via command-line arguments or environment variables.
If tools do not display, inspect your Claude for Desktop logs to verify connectivity. Ensure your Notion integration token is valid and confirm that your target Notion pages or databases have been explicitly shared with your Notion integration.
